2024 Participating Author Rebecca MacFarlane

Rebecca MacFarlane lives in New Brunswick with her partner, her two children, and two cats. A lifelong lover of fiction, Rebecca has been crafting stories for over three decades. The author of two novellas and one novel, Rebecca is currently working on several new pieces. Her fascination with all things strange and dark are the foundation of her writing style. While she spends much of her free time with her two very energetic boys, engaged in a debate about which is the superior construction vehicle (currently, the mighty dump truck is king, according to her three-year-old), she also enjoys painting, collecting dolls, and a well-made cup of English breakfast tea. Chuck is both a writer and an author, with eleven books/novels published. While he mostly enjoys writing mysteries: Suspense-Thrillers and Cozy Mysteries, he also writes short stories. All of his books are well-reviewed, and he has sat on the boards of the Writers’ Federation of NB, The Writers’ Union of Canada, is a Fellow of the Kingsbrae International Residency for the Arts, as well as being acknowledged as a member of the Miramichi Literary Trail. 2024 Participating Author Martha Vowles

Martha Vowles is the author of Senior Management: Parenting My Parents, published in April, 2021 by Nevermore Press. The book won the NB Book Award for non-fiction in 2022. Martha was brought up in rural Québec, nourished by Québecois and English culture and language. In 1977, she moved to Atlantic Canada to attend grad school at UNB. An avid reader, she appreciates the power and artistry of stories. A retired speech-language pathologist, she finds inspiration for her writing in nature, people, and the commonplace events of daily life. Martha lives beside the Wolastoq River, just outside Saint John, with her husband, two friendly dogs, and a pampered cat. She is currently working on another memoir. Her other projects include a collection of short stories, a poetry collection, and a novel set in Nicaragua in the 1980’s that’s on the back burner beside the soup pot. TL Trayah is a Canadian children's author residing in the Maratimes with her family. A devoted mom and gramma, she enjoys digital drawing, watercolour painting, and scenic drives. She loves to create stories and illustrations that make young readers smile and dream. She has a personal connection to writing, as she primarily grew up in foster care and found comfort in stories. TL Trayah's debut book, Bumblefly & Butterbee, is a sweet story of caring and confidence. 2024 Participating Author Anne Smith-Nochasak

Anne M. Smith-Nochasak grew up in rural Nova Scotia and taught for many years in northern settings including Northern Labrador, the focal setting for her second novel. She has returned home to write and live a quieter lifestyle. She has self-published two novels through Friesen Press: A Canoer of Shorelines (2021) and The Ice Widow: A Story of Love and Redemption (2022). Sarah Butland’s past is filled with complications, misunderstandings and the desire to escape them all, actually, her present is filled with all of that too, plus a past to totally throw things off balance. Oh yes, she learned to juggle when she was in grade nine, but with only three balls and not very well, so what the heck is she doing trying to juggle it all now? She’s living her dream through the written word, as complicated as that is most days and … while living her dream, taking the side walk instead of the road for a bit. That way she can barely afford to fill in the pot holes before she cruises to greater success! A-M Mawhiney is an advocate and educator who has spent her life seeking ways to improve lives through inclusive education. She hopes for a world where everyone can thrive. Her vision of what this might look like inspires her to write speculative fiction of an alternate future with inclusion and environmental rehabilitation as central themes. TP Wood graduated from McMaster University with an Honours degree in English and History. He has been an editor for three weekly newspapers and two corporate publications, has written executive speeches, screenplays and 30 years of private journals. He is an active member of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Authors Association, and The Writers’ Union of Canada. 77° North, his first published novel, was a finalist in the 2023 American Fiction Awards. Joe Powers is a Canadian horror writer, New Brunswick native, and long-time fan of all things scary. He's the author of Terror in High Water, Seventeen Skulls and Old Bones, and his short stories have appeared in various anthologies and collections. Among his many inspirations he lists Stephen King, Jack Ketchum, Michael Crichton, Vincent Price, Peter Benchley and Richard Matheson. He enjoys introducing the reader to flawed, believable characters and leading them on dark journeys with an unexpected twist. He isn’t afraid to mix and match genres, fearlessly weaving horror into noir, western, or sci fi. Joe enjoys poking around in the dark recesses of nature, off the beaten path, chasing down old legends and new stories. In his spare time, he's an avid hockey fan and dog lover, and still finds time to teach several classes at UNB's College of Extended Learning. 2024 Participating Author Kade Cook

Kade Cook is a major fantasy fangirl. Her love of Twilight, The Mortal Instruments and A Court of Thorns and Roses inspired her to write her own fantasy book series, The Covenant of Shadows. Book one, GREY, was a finalist for the 2017 Emerging Writer's Prize for Canada's best new books in Speculative Fiction. Born and raised as a 'Maritimer' through and through, Kade will always be at home around good times and kind hearts, proud to be a daydreamer with a story to tell. 2024 Participating Author Odette Barr

Odette Barr is illustrator and co-author of the newly-released book in the Camelia Airheart children’s adventure series—Follow the Goose Butt to Prince Edward Island (2024) is published by Acorn Press. Others include Follow the Goose Butt, Camelia Airheart! (2016) and Follow the Goose Butt to Nova Scotia (2018)—published by Chocolate River. The picture book, Take Off to Tantramar (2017), was the winner of that year’s Alice Kitts Memorial Award for Excellence in Children’s Writing at the NB Book Awards. Odette’s short stories for youth and young adults have placed or received honourable mention in the annual WFNB Writing Competitions. Odette has also authored a memoir: As a finalist in the 2019 Pottersfield Prize for Creative Nonfiction, Teaching at the Top of the World was published the following year and then shortlisted for the WFNB Nonfiction Award at the 2020 NB Book Awards.

Growing up in South Branch, Allan Hudson was encouraged to read from an early age by his mother who was a schoolteacher. He lives in Dieppe, NB, with his wife Gloria. He has enjoyed a lifetime of adventure, travel and uses the many experiences as ideas for his writing. He is an author of action/adventure novels, historical fiction and a short story collection. His short stories – The Ship Breakers & In the Abyss – received Honourable Mention in the New Brunswick Writer’s Federation competition. 2024 Participating Author Lisette Meuse-Manuel

Lisette is a new author of a debut book, Prepare to Pause, as well as a clinical Esthetician and a women empowerment educator. She has been practicing in the wellness and beauty industry since 1988 and works predominantly with female clients. She has studied in Medical Esthetics, Massage therapy, cosmetic chemistry, Tattooing, as well as Nutrition Health and Science for the female metabolism. Born and raised in the small community of Baie Ste-Anne, New-Brunswick Canada, she now resides in Moncton New-Brunswick. She owns a skin care clinic that specializes in menopausal skin care and wellness, nutrition coaching and she works alongside plastic surgeons in breast reconstruction cosmetic tattooing and post-surgical skin care.

2024 Participating Author Louise Boulter

Louise Boulter was born in Moncton, N.B. where she currently resides. Louise worked for the Federal Government for 35 years and after her retirement, she took a course on creative writing at the local Community College and discovered her real passion. Her first book, 'Forgotten' was published in 2016 and her second book, 'Discovery and Recovery - A Short Story Collection' was published in November 2023. She spends her free time doing volunteer work, enjoying yoga, line dancing, and spending time with her husband, son and her ADHC cat, Clay.

2024 Participating Author/Poet Jane Tims.

Jane Spavold Tims is a botanist, writer and artist living in rural New Brunswick. Jane’s interests are diverse but usually include a connection to natural themes. Her manuscript of poetry “mnemonic”, about wild bird calls, won the Alfred G. Bailey Prize in the 2016 New Brunswick Writers’ Federation Writing Competition. Previously she won Honorable Mention in this same category for her poetry manuscripts “growing and gathering” and “waterfall”. She has published one book of poetry, within easy reach (Chapel Street Editions, 2016), about gathering edible wild plants. Her next book of poetry will be published in 2018, about plants and animals living in the shelter of New Brunswick’s covered bridges. She has also contributed to a chapbook “butter and eggs” by the Fredericton-based writing group Fictional Friends. Jane illustrates her books with her pencil drawings and paintings, and shows her work regularly at Isaac’s Way Restaurant in Fredericton in their charity art auctions. Christopher is the author of the horror/magical-realism novel The Boy in the Canvas, the horror novella Something Sweet, and the supernatural horror novel The Orchid Room. He’s worked as a freelance writer, manager, waiter, bartender, event DJ, actor, children’s entertainer, truck driver, shopkeeper, call centre operator, concierge, office assistant, barista, and—most recently—a campground manager. Christopher is an avid reader and a lover of movies and almost anything horror related. He's a nature hound who isn't above crawling through the dirt to get a closer look at a particularly interesting beast, bird, or bug. Sandra Woods is a passionate, heart-centered leader, motivator and Reiki innovator who awakes individuals across the globe to their true gifts. She has acted as an intuitive wellness consultant for over 27 years, working with individuals as well as groups in opening their individual gifts for healing the mind, body, and soul for both themselves and others. Sandra is also the creator of ‘Rock Your Reiki’, an exclusive online program developed to support individuals in being attuned to all levels of Reiki. Her dream has come trough when she created a workbook journal that can help many people to start or even continue on their healing journey. We feature the following authors at our table: Rhonda Bulmer is a Moncton, New Brunswick-based author with a background in public relations and freelance writing, and currently serves as executive director for the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick. 2024 Participating Author Michelle McLean

Michelle McLean is a poet and clinical social worker with a passion for music, nature and treasure-seeking of all forms. Her poetry has found various homes, including Quills, elm & ampersand, Ascent Aspirations, Peacock Journal, Understorey, Other Voices and Sulfur. Her first collection of children’s poetry, When Pigs Fly and Other Poems, was published in 2020 by Chapel Street Editions and illustrated by her eldest daughter, Sophie Arseneau. Her youngest daughter, Lily Arseneau, was a contributing illustrator. Michelle’s second poetry collection, Tesserae, is forthcoming in April 2024 and traces the journey of trauma, grief, addiction and recovery. Michelle and her family live in Carlow, New Brunswick. 2024 Participating Author Suzanne Casey.

Suzanne Casey is originally from Grande-Digue, N.B., but has been calling Moncton home for over three decades. She is listed on the New Brunswick Author Portal and loves participating in book fairs where she can meet and greet current and future readers. Getting published has always been on her bucket list, ever since she was ten years old. In 2019, she took the plunge. Her first novel, DANNY AND MJ, was the result of that. Her second novel, THE QUILTING BEE, came out two years later. BIRCH ISLAND is her 2023 release. Ms. Casey's writings focus on women who never give up on happiness, even if they have difficulty finding it. Never challenge her on a game of Scrabble or Backgammon. She might just win!

2024 Participating Author Jan Fancy Hull

Jan Fancy Hull lives and writes in Nova Scotia. She is author of the Tim Brown Mysteries, a series of (potentially) twelve cozy mysteries chronicling the transformation of a small-town newspaper editor during his first-ever year off. People and events give Tim plenty to delve into, with surprising results. June: Trespasses will launch in Spring 2024, and July: Confidence in Autumn 2024. The series is published by Moose House Publications, Annapolis Royal, NS. Hull was awarded the Rita Joe Poetry Prize in the 2022 WFNS Nova Writes Literary Competition. Hannah D. State is an award-winning Canadian author and science fiction/fantasy writer. Her debut novel, Journey to the Hopewell Star, was named “A Must-Have New Brunswick Book of 2020” by Atlantic Books Today and was a Gold Medal Winner in the Young Adult Sci-Fi category in the 2021 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards. Hannah is bothered by inequality, violence, greed, complacency, snakes, entering a dark room, and not getting enough sleep. She enjoys writing about strong-willed characters who don’t fit the norm and who overcome great obstacles with perseverance, self-discovery, and help from others. Sometimes Hannah can’t keep up with her characters’ ideas and plans, so she takes breaks, drinks coffee, does yoga, and takes nature walks to calm her mind and really listen. Lady Diane McGyver fell in love with the fantasy genre when at the age of 13, an awesome Dungeon Master introduced her to Dungeons & Dragons. From there, she landed in the world created by Terry Brooks, then journeyed into the realms crafted by Mercedes Lackey. By the age of 16, she was truly lost to magical lands and dreamt of one day living in one or two. Her future goals are to write fantasy stories in a peel tower near the Atlantic Ocean where she’ll raise chickens, commune with trees and find adventure. Monique Thébeau is a retired translator who loves to plunge into the dreamlike world of fiction. She loves a good thriller and has delivered one with her debut novel, In the Dark of Winter. She has since published a French historical novel about her Acadian hometown, Saint-Louis-de-Kent, NB, "Souvenances, accoutumances et croyances', and two short stories published in the following anthologies: Winter Paths and Autumn Paths. 2024 Participating Author Grant Miller

Grant has been writing since he was young when he first realized he was different from those around him. The realization of his gay identity, experiences of alienation and bullying led him to immerse himself in his writing and science fiction. Later in his adult life, Grant became aware of the lack of representation for gay men in science fiction resulting in Life-Line: Origins. Grant hopes his book will reach LGBTQ+ readers keen to see themselves reflected in the literary world of science fiction. He is hard at work on the next two entries in the Life-Line series. Grant lives in the small community of Fox Point, Nova Scotia, in “Otter Cottage” — named for the river animal with which he strongly identifies. 2024 Participating Author Don Bourque.

Don Bourque lives in Maple Hills, New Brunswick. His writing career sprouted forth from the humble beginnings of winning a Grade 9 essay contest and a Grade 12 teacher who told him to never stop writing. Now, he is the author of multiple works, including a chapter in In Harm’s Way, Serving the Greater Good: Perspectives on Operational Duty (2006) and the Willow’s Wake trilogy: Willow: Awakened, Ascended, Avenged (2021), The Grand Chieftain (2023), and now The High Priestess. Don has also worked in public education, in the private mental health sector, and spent thirty-seven years in the Army Reserve with an operational tour in Afghanistan. These experiences, plus his studies in sociology, anthropology, and psychology, inform his writing. Outside of writing, Don was a drummer in a pipe and drum band and is a member of numerous veteran and community associations, including the Army Cadet League of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion. Yolande Essiembre is an author, coach and workshop facilitator who lives in New Brunswick, Canada. Her passion for understanding human behaviour and a lifelong interest in personal and spiritual growth led her to return to university as an adult to pursue her dream of becoming a therapist. She holds a master’s degree in Theology, a certification in social work, a certificate in religious studies, as well as accreditation in various types of counselling and coaching. She is a member of WFNB (Writer’s Federation New Brunswick) and Writer’s Union of Canada . She is the mother of four children and grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters. 2024 Participating Author Rick Revelle

Rick Revelle lives in Napanee Ontario and is a member of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation. I Am Algonquin in October 2013, followed by Algonquin Spring in November of 2015, then Algonquin Sunset 2017 were published by Dundurn Press. Crossfield Publishing of St Mary’s Ontario is published the final novel of the series Algonquin Legacy of the series 2021. The series takes place on both sides of the St Lawrence River Valley and the Great Lakes and to the Rocky Mountains during the years of 1320 to 1350’s. It follows an Algonquin Native family unit as they fight to survive in the harsh climate of warfare, survival from the elements and the constant quest for food of this pre-contact era. Rick introduces his readers to the Algonquin, Anishinaabe, Lakota, Mi´kmaq, Mohawk, and Lakȟóta, languages as they are used in the vernacular in the four novels. His last novel The Elk Whistle Warrior Society came out in 2023. It is about a secret society of Native women who hunt down human traffickers and murderers of Native women and abusers of Native children.

Judii skillfully weaves several life experiences into her first novel, Wabanang, An Anishinaabe Granddaughter’s Search for Truth. With the help of her only remaining relative, a hypnotist and a historian, the heroine Janey searches for her true heritage and tries to understand how her family’s past experiences has shaped her into the person she is. Judii has done her own share of searching. A genealogist from a young age, in her spare time, Judii is slowly relearning lost arts, such as beading, leather and quill work and Indigenous language. It was her love of music which led her to form a hand-drum group, Sisters of the Drum. Armed with stories, music and crafting materials, she shares her knowledge in area school, libraries and prisons. With the support of the Kingston Seniors Association and the Napanee Writers Forum, as well as Crossfield Publishing, she is working on her next novel, Kimodanagidon, Whispered Secrets.

2024 Participating Author Dianne Pennell

I was born and raised in the beautiful province of Newfoundland where the heart of story telling is well known. I graduated from nursing with honors and been awarded. It had taken me to the province of New Brunswick where I worked as a Director of Nursing for Veterans Affairs . In between, my immense energy guided me to further my knowledge into the world of fitness. I trained and became a fitness instructor with the YMCA, Sir Wilfred College, and Forever Young Fitness , promoting wellness. Fitness like writing is still a major part of my life to competing in races, triathlons, doathlons, marathons with many medals, ribbons, and trophies to show. I received during that timing my First Aid, First Responder training to teach many classes enhancing care for individuals in need I have and will always be a story teller, a story writer. It is a passion from childhood and with life experiences, it lead me to writing novels in the form of series whereas I am completing my series and starting a new one. 2024 Participating Author CP Daly

My reading tastes are an eclectic mix of thriller, crime, romance, and the occasional fantasy novel. But, when I put pen to paper, I can’t resist the intrigue of a mystery/thriller. I made the leap from writing short stories to completing, The Kelsey Woods trilogy: Dead After Midnight - Dead Before Sunrise - Dead Days Ahead.
