Perticipating Author Yolande Essiembre.

Yolande Essiembre is an author, coach and workshop facilitator. Her passion for understanding human behavior and a lifelong interest in personal and spiritual growth led her to returned to university as an adult to pursue her dream of becoming a therapist. She holds a Master of Theology degree, along with a certification in social work, a certificate in religious sciences, as well as accreditation in various types of counseling and coaching. Participating Author Kelly Sampson.

Kelly Kieran Sampson is the author of the award-winning YA novel, Through the Haze. She recently retired from teaching in the trades and lives in Charlottetown with her husband Kim and their dog Walter. As a youth, she spent all available hours reading through bookstore shelves looking for the next world to get lost in. When she’d eaten up the small, age-appropriate section, she moved to the front of the store to visit tougher novels with tougher subjects, which now reflect in her writing. Children and youth today no longer have to deal with just a tiny section of cute stories, and she is grateful to the writers who changed this. Children have to live in this world and deal with big problems; let’s not pretend they don’t. Through the Haze, her award winning, debut novel deals with grief and the cookie-cutter mold we are expected to fit in when death happens. But, with thanks to the influence of Kelly’s favorite genres and writers, a little supernatural creeps into the story to add a twist to our stereotypes about death. Joe Mahoney’s first novel, A Time and a Place, was published on October 1st 2017 by Five Rivers Press. His memoir, a behind-the-scenes glimpse of working at CBC Radio, Adventures in the Radio Trade, was published on August 1st 2023 by Donovan Street Press. Joe has worked as a story editor on multiple radio, television and film projects, and bakes a mean lasagna. Donovan Street Press Inc. was created in 2020 to publish the books of Joe Mahoney and his father, Tom Mahoney (Tom published his first book, The Deer Yard and Other Stories, at 88 years of age). Participating Author Tanah Haney

When not writing, Tanah Haney divides her time between playing the Celtic harp, teaching music, gardening and cat wrangling. She is a published poet and is co-author of Where the World Bleeds Through with her husband, photographer and digital artist Mark A. Harrison. The character of Aiden in Tanah’s debut novel, A Peculiar Symmetry, was inspired by Tanah’s own experience with neurodiversity. Late diagnosed with ADHD at age 50 but neurodivergent from day one, Tanah is determined to be a more vocal champion of everyone who has ever felt different, and for the free expression of same in a diverse, inclusive, and compassionate society. Participating Author Vanessa Hawkins/ Charlotte St. James

A life-long lover of horror, Charlotte wrote her first story when she was in grade five. It was entitled Mutilated and warranted a trip to the school guidance counsellor. Since then she has become enthralled with the vast and untamable world of literotica. With over a dozen publications under her belt, Charlotte won second place in the David Adams Richards Prize for her book Dante’s Inferno last year, to the chagrin of all the faith-abiding attendees that were made to hear her read at the summertime gala. Her books The Curious Case of Simon Todd and A Child to Cry Over written under pen name Vanessa C. Hawkins, have been featured as bestsellers on Amazon and have merited numerous awards. Participating Author Pierre Arseneault

Pierre C Arseneault, the youngest of eleven children and grew up in the small town of Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada. He fulfilled a childhood goal in 2004 and became a published cartoonist. His first published work of fiction was in 2013; a collection of short stories called Dark Tales for Dark Nights; written in collaboration with Angella Cormier. This was followed up by Sleepless Nights, a collection of short stories published in 2014. His novel, Oakwood Island, also co-written with Angella Cormier, was published in 2016 and has been named finalist for several awards. Pierre currently lives in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Cathy Hopkins was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 1967. When she was a child, her family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she was raised. She still resides in Halifax with her supportive husband, Robert. They have a beautiful daughter, Jessica and three wonderful grandchildren: Amelia, Logan and Oliver that keeps Cathy entertained. Cathy works in the finance industry by day and author by night. She enjoys writing, traveling and meeting new people. Cathy has always been drawn to the twists, surprises, and action of mystery and suspense stories. The love of these stories is the foundation to her dreams of publishing a novel in the same genre. Suzanne Casey is a Moncton-based author with 3 novels and 2 (French) children's books under her belt. She loves participating in fairs where she can meet new people. Some as buyers, others as inspiration for future characters. When not writing, Ms. Casey finds enjoyment in car travel, organizing indoor spaces, and walking beaches. I grew up in Foster Care in NS. At 16 I ran away from my home to search for my family after doing research on my own as to their whereabouts. I was happy to return to my wonderful foster home where I graduated from High School and went on to college. I married a young man from Maine who was studying to be a minister with The Wesleyan Church. We have been married now for 50 years have three wonderful adult children. We are the proud grandparents of five beautiful granddaughters. I started writing my story over 20 years ago. One line at a time it seems. Until it all came together last year. Joppa Publishing House published my book and it was released in May of 2024.

Matthew Anderson is the author of six non-fiction books, including the just-out “Someone Else’s Saint” (Pottersfield Press, April 2025). Last year he was runner up for both the Pottersfield Press non-fiction prize and the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia Nova Writes short story award. Participating Author Olive Mazerolle.

Olive Mazerolle grew up on the easternmost point of New Brunswick in a small fishing village called Baie Sainte-Anne. Her life journey eventually led her to work for the RCMP in Fredericton from 1981 to 2004 before she was transferred to Moncton, where she retired in 2016. Retirement allowed her to nurture her passion for writing. She utilizes this new skill to share how one can transcend past traumatic experiences. Her only hope for this, her first book, is that it may help others. Her life remains good as she continues to stay healthy. Olive received the Canadian Confederation 125th Medal in 1993 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. Robert (Bob) Stutt has worked in children’s television for over 40 years, puppeteering on such shows as Fraggle Rock, The Jim Henson Hour, The Friendly Giant, The Big Comfy Couch, Sesame Park, and as Iggy Iguana on Under the Umbrella Tree. He’s also written over 300 scripts produced for CBC, CTV, PBS and Disney, and has performed live everywhere from the street corners of Toronto to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. Author Becca Blue is an award-winning filmmaker, photographer and graphic designer that writes fiction and children’s books. Her first novel All I Need was turned into an indie film that she directed and produced on her own and it won the Royal Reel award at the Canadian International Film Festival. Her children’s book series teaches families about dog grooming, pet care and dogs with disabilities by following a young blind dog named Bruce. Her knowledge of this topic comes from her 25 years experience as a professional dog groomer and animal behaviourist. Hannah D. State is an award-winning Canadian author and science fiction/fantasy writer. Her debut novel, Journey to the Hopewell Star, was named “A Must-Have New Brunswick Book of 2020” by Atlantic Books Today and was a Gold Medal Winner in the 2021 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards. Her second novel, Journey to the Dark Galaxy, was a finalist in the 2024 Whistler Independent Book Awards in the ‘fiction’ category. Hannah’s writing has been described as “well-crafted” (BookLife) and “compelling” (IndieReader). Angel is a devoted mother of three exceptional children and the wife of a loyal and supportive husband. Angella Cormier grew up in St-Antoine, a small town in southeast New Brunswick. This is where her love of reading and writing were born. Her curious nature about everything mysterious and paranormal helped carved the inspiration for her current passion of writing horror and mystery stories. STEVE C. ESTON has been a lover of the fantastical and the scientific since he was a young boy. He wrote his first story by hand while still in elementary school—a five-page story about a tiger-masked ninja fighting mythical monsters that included his own illustrations. Steve has published five books: The Burden of the Protector, The Conclave, Deficiency, The Stranger of Ul Darak (First book of the Lost Tyronian Archives) and Surrender (Book 1 of the Baneseeker Chronicles). When not spending time with his family, Steve makes time for his numerous hobbies, which include reading books, listening to music, playing video games, watching movies, making puzzles, and playing hockey and tennis. Participating Author Bernard Bourque

Bernard J Bourque, PhD, is Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of New England (Australia). He is the author of eight scholarly books in the field of seventeenth-century French literature. His fictional work is two trilogies, both available in one volume. They take place primarily on Campobello Island (New Brunswick, Canada). Written with humour, the novels explore the themes of human connections and differences.Bernard lived on Campobello Island for 13 years. As a finalist in the 2019 Pottersfield Prize for Creative Nonfiction, Odette Barr’s memoir, Teaching at the Top of the World, was published by Pottersfield the following year and then shortlisted for the WFNB Nonfiction Award at the 2020 NB Book Awards. Odette is also illustrator and co-author of the Camelia Airheart children’s adventure series. Odette’s short stories for youth and young adults have placed or received honourable mention in the annual WFNB Writing Competitions. She is presently working on two YA and Teen Fiction novels. Participating Author Jane Tims

ane Spavold Tims is a botanist, writer and artist living in rural New Brunswick. Jane’s interests are diverse but usually include a connection to natural themes. Her manuscript of poetry “mnemonic”, about wild bird calls, won the Alfred G. Bailey Prize in the 2016 New Brunswick Writers’ Federation Writing Competition and was published in 2024 by Chapel Street Editions. In 2022, she was short-listed for a New Brunswick Book Award for her poetry book “a glimpse of water fall”. She has published books in the Meniscus Science Fiction Series, The Kaye Eliot Mystery Series and, recently, three books in the Urban Mystery Series. Jane illustrates her books with her pencil drawings and paintings, and is the illustrator for Jennifer Houle's book (2024), "A Child's Botanical Alphabet." Casey Shelley was born and raised in Rothesay, New Brunswick. She’s been writing fiction since she was old enough to hold a pencil and enjoys nothing more than bringing her characters to life. Kade Cook is a major fantasy fangirl. Her love of Twilight, The Mortal Instruments and A Court of Thorns and Roses inspired her to write her own fantasy book series, The Covenant of Shadows. Book one, GREY, was a finalist for the 2017 Emerging Writer's Prize for Canada's best new books in Speculative Fiction. Bea Waters has been writing stories since childhood. Back then it was her way to escape the bullies, but today she strives to provide an escape into adventure for all who need one, while fostering a sense of belonging and cooperation. Her favourite characters are unique, those who have been downcast by the status quo because Bea understands that the future is never created by the status quo. Her favourite themes centre around the secrets we keep, and the quest to find our tribe, our community. My name is Barb Parker. I am the author of 3 books. My first book, “My Sister’s Journey from Headache to Heartache,” was published in 2010. I am honoured to say this book was chosen in the category of READERS CHOICE OF THE YEAR 2013, by Salon Magazine. It was also recommended by Dr. John M. Meagher, (doctor and author) to be used as an educational tool for School of Nursing and Dalhousie University Medical Schools in Halifax and St. John. My second book, “The Choice My Path My Destiny,” was published in 2013. I wrote this book as a healing process for me and letting go so I could move forward. My third book, “Don’t Leave Me,” was published in 2024. This book was written after the death of my mother. I live in Fredericton, NB with my husband, Larry. I am retired from the corporate world. I am a Mother and a Grandmother. My days are filled with showing love and kindness to others in the form of a meal, a treat, helping hand or just a short chat. I have always enjoyed writing.

Christopher is the author of four published works, including his newest novel of supernatural horror, The Orchid Room. He’s worked as a freelance writer, manager, waiter, bartender, event DJ, actor, children’s entertainer, truck driver, shopkeeper, call centre operator, concierge, office assistant, barista, supply teacher, and—most recently—a campground manager. Christopher is an avid reader and a lover of cinema. He's a nature hound who isn't above crawling through the dirt to get a closer look at a particularly interesting beast, bird, or bug. Participating Author Alison Taylor

Alison Taylor (they/them) is a writer, editor, and filmmaker based in Fredericton. Taylor’s short stories have appeared in various journals, and their debut novel Aftershock, published by HarperCollins Canada, received the Atlantic Book Awards John and Margaret Savage First Book Award (Fiction), and was shortlisted for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize. They received the 2024 Douglas Adams Richards Prize for Fiction for their work-in progress, Confessions of a Binge Drinker (working title). They have edited a hundred-plus hours of television and many award-winning short films and music videos, and their own experimental films have screened at festivals internationally. They currently work in the editorial department at Goose Lane Editions and as a freelance editor of both books and film and are working to complete a draft of Confessions while two cats yell at them and a 70-pound boxer whines in their face. Participating Author Joe Powers

Joe Powers is a Canadian horror writer, New Brunswick native, and long-time fan of all things scary. He's the author of Terror in High Water, Seventeen Skulls and Old Bones. His short stories have appeared in various anthologies and collections. Among his many inspirations he lists Stephen King, Jack Ketchum, Michael Crichton, Vincent Price, Peter Benchley and Richard Matheson. He enjoys introducing the reader to flawed, believable characters and leading them on dark journeys with an unexpected twist. He isn’t afraid to mix and match genres, fearlessly weaving horror into noir, western, or sci fi. Joe enjoys poking around in the dark recesses of nature, off the beaten path, chasing down old legends and new stories. In his spare time, he's an avid hockey fan and dog lover, and teaches writing-related classes at UNB's College of Extended Learning. Participating Author Nicole Duguay-Mazerolle

The eighth of 12 children, Nicole Duguay-Mazerolle was born on Île Lamèque in northeastern New Brunswick. Married for almost 50 years to her husband Roger, they had two children, Patrick and Caroline, who enriched their life in every way. She is now grandmother to four grandchildren, Yanik, Valérie, Karine and Isaac, who are and always will be her priceless treasures. In retirement, she discovered her passion for writing. Her first book, “Du haut de ses 100 ans, ma mère me raconte son histoire” (“From the top of her 100s, my mother tells me her story”), is full of anecdotes, humour and descriptions of her mother’s everyday life. She also presents her first children's book: Motocross, pourquoi pas? Why Not? This bilingual book recounts her experience as a spectator at a motocross championship attended by her 8-year-old grandson. It's an adventure we invite you to discover. The book is for children who want to believe in their dreams, and for parents and grandparents who want to encourage them in their attempts to achieve them.

Participating Author Barbara Morrisey

Barbara Morrisey of Hillsborough, NB, is an author, musician, public speaker, sociologist, and retired university lecturer. She has presented papers in academic conferences regarding the long-term care situation in NB for adults with significant disabilities and mental illnesses. In her book They Have No Idea, she bravely pulls back the curtain on her own experience of having a child with severe autism, so others might gain a better understanding of some of the difficulties and blessings families in similar circumstances experience.
